Lull is a mindfulness studio on Maple Street in Burlington. Since 2014 we have taught one thing, carefully: how to sit still and come back.
Our story
It began with twelve cushions.
In the autumn of 2014 Nora Quill rented the second floor of 47 Maple Street, painted it, bought twelve cushions and put a sign on the door: evening sit, 6:30, all welcome.
Four people came the first night. By spring there was a waiting list, a second teacher and a kettle that never quite cooled. We added the 8-week course in 2016, the sound bath in 2018 and the lake retreats in 2020, when a lot of people needed a quiet weekend away.
The room is bigger now and there are nine of us teaching, but the evening sit still starts at 6:30, and anyone is still welcome. The sign on the door has not changed either; it is the same board, repainted twice.

How we teach
Three things we never change.
Whoever is teaching and whatever the class, these hold. They are why people keep coming back.
01
Plain words.
No jargon, no belief system, nothing to sign up to. We explain what to do and why, then we do it together.
02
Small groups.
Twenty-four cushions in the big room, ten in the small one. Your teacher learns your name and notices when you are not there.
03
No pressure.
Sit, lie down, open your eyes, leave early. Nothing in a class is compulsory, and nobody will ask you to share.
The rooms
Second floor, south light.
Two practice rooms and a tea corner above the bakery on Maple Street. Warm in winter, open windows in summer.
