About Maya
“Nobody needs to be in crisis to deserve an hour that is onlytheirs.”
Maya trained as a counselor after eight years as a school teacher, watching good people run themselves into the ground. She joined Ovel in 2015 and sees adults whose worry, tiredness or a big change has started to run the day.
In a first session she mostly listens. By the second, you agree on one thing to change and one way to know it is changing. She uses CBT and ACT, says what she notices, and tells you if someone else on the team would suit you better.
That I talk back. Therapy with me is a conversation, not an hour of nodding. By the second session most people say it feels like thinking out loud with someone on their side.
What would you tell someone nervous about starting?
Bring the nerves with you. “I am nervous about this” is a perfectly good first sentence, and we can start right there.
What does your own Sunday look like?
A long walk around Lake Wingra and a crossword I never finish. I try to take my own advice about rest. Some weeks I even manage it.
Her caseload
What Maya sees mostweeks.
A rough share of her client hours this year. If what you bring is outside it, she says so on the first call and introduces you to the right colleague.
