Eight residencies a year, why the dates look strange, and how to get on a guest artist’s list before it fills.

Two of the six chairs are kept for visiting artists. It is the part of the calendar people find hardest to follow, so here is how it actually works.

Eight residencies a year

Each guest takes the room for one to three weeks, roughly every six weeks through the year. We pick people whose work we would sit for ourselves, not whoever has the biggest following.

Most are booked six to nine months ahead.

How dates are announced

Dates go on the artists page and on Instagram at the same time, usually sixty days before the guest arrives.

  • Sixty days notice, both channels at once
  • Books open the same evening
  • Deposits are held by us, not the guest
  • Rates are set by the artist, listed up front

Getting on a list

Send your idea, placement and rough size to the studio rather than to the guest directly. We hold a shared list and pass it over in one batch, so nothing gets lost in a personal inbox.

Being on the list early matters more than writing a long message.

Why some weeks fill in a day

A guest week is ten to twelve sittings in total. If half of those are already promised from a previous visit, four slots is all that reaches the public list.

It is not a sales tactic. There is simply not much room.

If you miss it

Ask to be carried to the next visit. Most guests return within a year and returning names go out before the public announcement.

Residents also draw in adjacent styles, and there is rarely a wait longer than a month.

Guesting with us

Artists are welcome to write with a portfolio link and the dates that suit them. We answer every one, including the ones that are a no.

The short version
  • Two chairs held for guests
  • Eight residencies a year
  • Dates announced sixty days out
  • Write to the studio, not the guest
  • Missed weeks roll to the next visit

Bring us a rough idea. We will draw the rest.

Consults run forty minutes and cost nothing. Come with references, a rough placement, and a budget range. You leave with a date, an artist, and a price band.
