Why a body scrub belongs before your massage, not after

Guests often ask whether to book a scrub or a massage. Our answer is usually both, in that order. A scrub first changes how the rest of your visit feels, and the reasons are simple.
What a scrub does
A body scrub uses salt or sugar with oil to lift dry, dead skin. It takes about thirty minutes and leaves the skin soft and slightly warm. It is not harsh: your therapist adjusts the pressure on knees, elbows and anywhere tender.
Why it comes first
Freshly scrubbed skin takes oil beautifully, so the massage that follows glides more smoothly and the oil soaks in rather than sitting on top. A massage first and a scrub after would simply wash the oil away.
A scrub is the warm up. The massage lands better on skin that is ready for it.
A shower in between
After the scrub you rinse off in the treatment room shower, wrapped in a warm towel on the way back to the table. It takes five minutes, and many guests say it is the moment they finally stop thinking about the day.
A warm wrap after the scrub, before the massage begins.
Skip the sauna after
Scrubbed skin is a little more sensitive to heat for a few hours. Visit the pools and the sauna before your scrub, then keep to the lounge afterward. Skip shaving the same day, and wear something loose home.
