Whitening at home: two weeks with trays, honestly

Whitening at home: two weeks with trays, honestly

Home whitening with trays made for your teeth works, slowly and safely. One of our patients kept a note for two weeks. Here is what happened, and what it cost.

Day 1

Fitting the trays

A quick scan, then the trays arrive a week later with the gel and a shade card. The full kit is $395, with a check-up visit included.

Day 3

The first difference

Two shades lighter on the card, and a little sensitivity at night. Wearing the trays in the evening instead of overnight helped.

It is slower than the chair, and it is the safest whitening we offer.

Day 7

Halfway

Four shades lighter. Coffee went through a straw for the week, and red wine waited.

The shade card is checked at the start, the middle and the end.

Day 14

Where it stopped

Six shades lighter, and the shade then held. Crowns and fillings do not whiten, so we checked those matched before starting.

After

Keeping it

A top-up night once a month keeps the shade. Spare gel is $45, and the trays last for years.

Try it

Book a check-up first if it has been a while. Whitening works best on clean, healthy teeth.
